Verpan Fun 1TM Table Lamp
From Denmark’s most influential and collectable designer – the legendary Verner Panton – comes the Verpan Fun 1TM. Designed in 1964, this delightful table lamp comprises three concentric chrome rings each supporting flowing tresses of mother-of-pearl discs. Each disc is individually suspended by a chrome ring – ensuring a taut “hang” dynamic. The lamp has an unusual transparent cord with an integrated on/off switch.
Verpan Fun shell lamps emit a wonderfully natural glow. The slightest breath of wind causes the individual shells to oscillate, tinkling melodiously one against another whilst simultaneously shimmering with a delightful iridescence.
Verner Panton was a lively and endlessly optimistic man. The future was to be as colourful and happy as his designs. But all this changed post-Vietnam and for much of the late seventies and the nineteen eighties Panton was shunned by the merely fashionable. Championed by the post-Modernists in the nineties he triumphantly and deservedly returned to vogue. On the 17th of September 1998 a major retrospective of his work opened in his native Denmark. Sadly, Panton had died twelve days earlier.
Panton’s series of Fun lamps have never gone out of production. They can be found in hip hotels, cool casinos and the MoMA in Manhattan. Iconic, eternal – they are an investment in their owner’s taste and discernment.
