The Mass Light NA5 was designed in 2012 by Norm in collaboration with Nordic design house &Tradition. It was inspired by the street lamps of some of the world’s most iconic cities – Paris, Barcelona and New York. It is functional, minimal, poetic and timeless.
Norm are Kaspar Ronn and Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen. Both were born in 1976 and graduated together from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Their street-lighting inspiration made it important to them that solid stone should be incorporated into it. Hence the hat-like brown marble top. The frosted opal glass bulb shade is also evocative of street lighting.
&Tradition are big on respecting the natural world. In their capable hands craft meets art; function meets form; and material meets potential. The rare and unusual use of marble in this pendant lamp lends it an exceptional sense of quality and durability.
Try it hung low over a coffee table. The richness of its construction looks great with black leather and smoked glass, and it adds a serious dose of sophistication to any interior.
