New for 2013 from renowned Milan-based minimalist Piero Lissoni is the remarkable and elegant Kartell Zooom Extending Dining Table. Perfect for growing families (or if you sometimes need that bit of extra seating space), this striking piece of contemporary domestic design is the extending version of the fixed Kartell Zooom Dining Table.
The Zooom is topped by sturdy scratch-resistant tempered glass which is back-painted in either white or black. This is framed by an austere, stream-lined base in a choice of polished aluminium or white or black painted aluminium (to match the glass top). The legs of the table are made from strong bent laminate in black or white.
Italian made, it first turned heads at the 2013 Cologne International. It’s not just for the dining room either. Classy and functional, with a Quaker-esque lack of frills, it’s good in the office, studio or study too.
The minimalist nature of this surely soon to be iconic table lends itself to pairing with an array of other styles and materials. Kartell’s Louis Ghost Chairs compliment it perfectly – try a mix of different chair colours if you’re really adventurous. The same is true of the Kartell Masters Chair. “Reclaimed” chairs – even odd ones – seem to be unified by the tables’ overarching, all-encompassing style. The maxim “less is more” certainly is true of this classic piece of design.
As well as the two colour options, the Zooom Extending is available as a small, medium or large version. All have a height of 72 cm. The small has a width of 120 cm and a depth of 70 cm and extends 50 cm in width by a central leaf. The medium and large versions both have a depth of 85 cm. They extend by two hidden central leaves that are 60 cm long. This means the large extends from 160 cm by two times 60 cm to a maximum of 280 cm wide. The medium table extends by two 60 cm leaves from 130 cm to a maximum of 250 cm. One leaf only can be used if that is all that is required.
The leaves are hidden when the table is closed – and exposed when the legs are pulled out, raised and easily fixed in position.
Why not set your extending dining table off with a striking, eye-catching centrepiece like the Alessi Blow-up Basket or the Black and Blum Fruit Loop Fruit Basket?
