Daniel Wellington are a Stockholm based watch manufacturer who sold their first watch in May 2011 and now retail in excess of 700,000 timepieces per annum, reputedly making them the world’s fastest growing company.
Headed by Scandinavian Filip Tysander, the apparent Britishness of his company’s name can be explained by a chance encounter he enjoyed while travelling light from beach to beach in Australia. Tysander was treated to tales of the travelling life from an impeccably dressed Englishman who wore an expensive Swiss watch teamed with a somewhat weathered Nato strap. These were developed by the Royal Navy for use in harsh marine conditions and Tysander was immediately gripped by the possibilities of this great-looking and robust material.
The Englishman’s name was Daniel Wellington and his distinctive sartorial style resonates through this range of superb looking, decorative yet utilitarian watches. They are a sublime marriage of Scandinavian functionalism and individualistic British couture and they perform perfectly with the preppy style currently trending.
