Daniel Wellington’s range of ladies watches benefits from the same great styling and simple, elegant functionalism as their masculine variants but with a slightly smaller casing.
They are the result of a remarkable meeting between Filip Tysander, a Scandinavian entrepreneur, and an impeccably dressed Englishman of great poise and panache who wore a Rolex watch customised with a Nato strap (a kind of waterproof braided fabric pioneered by the Royal Navy).
Tysander was inspired to create a range of slimmed down inexpensive watches that displayed the same classical qualities, using various straps of Nato fabric, leather or the hybrid material Grace, the first two of which he named after British University towns.
The Englishman was of course Daniel Wellington. The company that bears his name sold its first watch in 2011 and now sells 700,000 watches plus per annum - no mean achievement and one which has reputedly made them the fastest growing company in the world.
This sublime example has a black leather strap more suited to formal occasions and a cream dial. Like all DW watches it is supplied with a tool to make strap changing easy. A fabulous preppy looking accessory you won’t tire of.
