Daniel Wellington watches are a unique marriage of Scandinavian style and English eccentricity, the result of a chance meeting in an Australian hotel bar between Filip Tysander, the company’s founder, and an impeccably dressed, remarkably well-presented Englishman.
Tysander was especially impressed by the gentleman’s wristwatch, an expensive Swiss chronograph personalised with a Nato strap - a material made of braided fabric developed by the Royal Navy for use in extreme marine environments.
Inspired, Tysander crafted an inexpensive homage to this watch, making it lighter and slimmer without losing any of its elegance and quiet sophistication.
The Englishman’s name was of course Daniel Wellington, and the company that bears his name has further cemented its bonds with the British Isles by naming their straps after British University towns.
Daniel Wellington watches appeal to the sartorially conscious 25 plus demographic and they have great allure for adherents of the preppy style.
