Established over 80 years ago in 1923 where Antonio Calligaris designed there first product the wooden Marocca Calligaris Chair. The business began producing furniture for other established companies; during the 1960s it was the first company to have technology to produce Straw seats to huge success.

 

The company began to grow at a rapid rate due to its innovative designs and in the 1980’s when international fashion was becoming more accessible due to travel and globalization, there was the “Made in Italy” boom which was seen as and still is a status symbol due to Italians cool and stylish nature.

Calligaris have a serious passion for producing wooden furniture including modern dining chairs, tables, sideboards, bar stools using innovative technologies and producing great affordable designs. They re branded during the 1990s and adopted the woodpecker as there mascot and logo to represent there love of wood and a tireless worker amongst the trees. Wood may be involved in the core of there products but they have also moved with the times producing some stunning furniture in metal, glass, methacrylate plastic, leather, fabric, and other advanced materials.

During 1997 the brand gained investment from the L Capital group which owns the most famous luxury fashion brand of them all Louis Vuitton. The companies have many similar qualities in that they are forward thinking, stylish, innovative and aspirational.

Calligaris went on to produce there most popular chairs at the turn of the millennium the Jam Chair and expanded its range rapidly, Calligaris now have over 7,000 product variations, which include bar stools, dining chairs, beds, dining tables, lighting, coffee tables, sideboards, mirrors and cabinets, They send out over 1,000 cubic meters of furniture a day worldwide to 90 international countries and have a turnover of 150 million euros and employ 700 staff. Other popular products include the L'eau chair and Ice chair.
