The first Anglepoise lamp was made and designed back in 1932 by British designer George Cowardine. His pateneted design allow the joints and spring tension of the lamp to be moved into a wide range of positions which it will maintain without being clamped. The Anglepoise name is often now used generically for task and desk lamps with movements similar to the original Anglepoise.
.
In 2009 Anglepoise celebrated its 75th birthday by reissuing the original 1227 lamp design which is one of our bestsellers. The desk lamp receives recognition by being placed on a Royal Mail Stamp celebrating British Design classics including the Mini, Concorde, Routemaster, Polyprop chair and the Spitfire. There can be no higher accolade than this simply they are the greatest lamp ever made, timeless british design at its best..
You will no doubt have seen the Anglepoise lamp featured in films made by Pixar in their opening credits.
