The light came to great prominence the day that the 2nd world war started as the press said it was the perfect lamp for the black out. From that day on the lamp has been considered to be a British design classic. The light can be seen animated at the intro of every Pixar film and royal mail have brought out a range of stamps that honor great British inventions which include the Anglepoise lamp, the mini, spitfire airplanes, Concorde and Route Master bus so its held in very high regard along side these innovative designs.
Several other forms of the Anglepoise desk lamp have now materialized including the Type 3 and the more affordable Type 75, Tupe 1228 and not to mention the popular Giant 1227 floor lamps. They all work off Anglepoise’s patented lever system.
The lights are as popular in the home or the office and have stood the test of time which truly makes a great design. They are favorites amongst graphic designers, architect and interior designers. The new lamps all come with energy saving bulbs which still produce the intensity of light as a standard bulb. Variations of the 1227 and type 75 ae now available as Anglepoise floor lamp versions.
